The name Doris Leslie Blau is synonymous with the finest carpets in the world.
Founded in 1965, after a decade of working with her former husband, Doris Blau became a legend in the world of design and architecture with an outstanding collection of antique Oriental and European rugs. With an emphasis on serving the design community and their clients, Blau collected an eclectically unique array of antique rugs and carpets of outstanding merit from around the globe.
In 1998 Doris Blau joined forces with Nader Bolour who brought to the business a background of three generations in the carpet trade that began in Teheran, moved to London, then on to Los Angeles and today in New York. The combination of Blau and Bolour lead to a unique set of expertise that was unparalleled in the carpet world and helped bring the business to another level. With his passion and eye for the unusual, Nader Bolour continues to bring a bit of “soul” into each project and every room.
In 2001, after years of requests from designer and architect clients, we created our first collection of contemporary carpets, inspired by vintage textiles and works of art as well as the company’s extensive collection of antique carpets. Building on the success of the first Modernist collection, The Designer’s Collection was introduced in October 2002; created by a group of today’s leading architects and interior designers. The wide assortment of designs reflects the varied styles of the designers who participated.
Continuing in our endeavor to add new designs and qualities to our collections, we are proud to present the newest product line: the Banana Leaf Collection. These carpets are made from banana leaf fiber and offer a luxurious look and touch with more of an organic vibe than pure silk.
With the years of success in the carpet business, it felt natural for us to expand our creative vision. In September 2003 we introduced Decorative Arts which feature the very best antique, vintage furniture and decorative arts. Consisting of pieces from the first half of the 20th Century, we have created a collection that is truly unique and complements both our antique rugs and our contemporary carpets.
