In the early 1970's, Peter Fasano graduated as a design student from the Parson's School of Design in Manhattan. He planned on practicing his skills as a design professional, but in 1973 as a member of the Art Students League of New York, he was encouraged to pursue an interest in painting. Peter still has his first painting, a piece of canvas that he stapled to the floor and completed over a two-month period. The painting led him to the realization that repeated patterns were what he found most interesting and fulfilling. Hence, the fabric and wallpaper production lines were born. After workiing with top designers in Manhattan for a number of years, in 1990 Peter relocated to the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts with his wife, Elizabeth Hamilton, their son, Nicholas, and numerous family pets. Their dog, Lewis, and the previous dog, Calvin, feature prominently in quirky patterns both on fabric and wallpaper. This quirky, novelty style, along with the more classical prints, is one of the design styles for which Peter is best known. Peter Fasano's designs are inspired by patterns found in nature: leaves, tropical themes, beaches, pets and animals of all kinds, as well as by such varied sources as Venetian architecture, classical European and Indian florals and stripes of every imaginable variety. All of the fabrics and wallpapers are hand silk-screened and many contain hand painted details. All pigments are mixed in our own color-mixing department. In fact, all aspects of production take place under one roof in an ecologically and environmentally friendly studio. Custom work, executed with the customer's specific designs and colorways, make up approximately 40% of our fabric and wallpaper production.
