Arzu rugs are 100% handmade with fibers and dyes created from nature. Arzu's philosophy is to produce rugs with the highest regard for minimizing environmental impact. The rugs are created with handcarded, handspun wool from sheep bred in central Afghanistan. Avoiding harmful chemical dyes, Arzu rugs contain rich hues derived from natural plants and fruits, such as madder root for red, pomegranate for yellow and walnut for brown. The rugs are woven on looms in the homes of Arzu weavers and are dried and sheered with a natural finishing process.
Arzu, meaning hope in Dari, is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit organization that provides sustainable income to Afghan women by sourcing and selling the rugs they weave. Arzu helps weavers and their families break the cycle of poverty by providing them above market compensation and access to education and health care. An Arzu rug is an investment in hope.
