Comfortable proportions and thoughtful composition characterize the clean, classical lines of this Biedermeier extension table. Particularly remarkable for its sunburst top of eight harmoniously balanced sections of luminous French walnut veneers, the Biedermeier design is typified by tapering quadrangular bent legs and its expression of the 19th century belief in “truth to materials" in the way the wood itself is employed in smooth, uninterrupted planes.
