England, c1815. Mahogany. The octagonal “drum-form” top above a corresponding frieze with four rectangular drawers and 4 triangular drawers, one drawer stamped "W. Whitehead", raised on a turned pedestal with four outswept legs ending in heavy cast paw feet and casters, original iron spider, the pedestal with dovetailed mount to base, the top tooled green leather; secondary woods - oak and poplar. Condition: Very good; replaced brasses, old repairs legs. A notation in the Illustrated London News, June 27, 1851, indicated “W Whitehead, Lancaster, cabinet maker,” declared bankruptcy on that date. Provenance: Justine Fisher Collection, Travelers Rest, South Carolina.
