- Description
This supremely elegant occasional table derives its name from the Hindu word 'Tepai' and came into general use with the habit of tea drinking in the late 17th century. Hand-crafted in rich satinwood and cherrywood, the two tiers are decorated with tulipwood cross-bandings and boxwood inlays and bordered by raised scalloped edges in the 'pie-crust' manner. The tapered legs are exquisitely turned and hand-carved at the feet to enhance the overall effect. The oval tray comes away to reveal a satinwood cross-banded surface and is ideal for serving tea or other beverages. At the centre of the tray is an inlaid sun-burst design in birds-eye maple; where every segment of veneer has been individually scorched in hot silver sand in the traditional manner. As an added refinement the underside of the tray is finished in green baize and the perfect fit of tray to table is further testimony to the skill of the cabinet maker.
