A delicate, almost lace-like design of small flowers, fine vines, and palmettes in blues, cinnamon, and pale apricot sprawls gently across the light tan field of this exquisite antique Khorassan. This sumptuous array of forms is organized as a subtle medallion composition with corner pieces, although the aspect of the design recedes into the complexity. A a classical cartouche border with similar coloration encloses the whole composition, simultaneously contrasting and harmonizing with the field. Circa 1900.
