An elegant symmetrical pattern of vines and palmettes in shades of rust and apricot spreads across the deep blue ground of this lavish yet stately antique Khorassan. Rugs of this type are famed for their adherence to classical Persian design, and this example presents such classic style in all its grandeur. The relatively simple border of palmettes allows the majestic design of the field to take precedence, just as its apricot ground provides a nice, framing contrast to the blue of the field. Eastern Persia, circa 1900.
