A series of simple round medallions repeats along the length of this supremely graceful antique Khotan, surrounded by fine linear stylizations of flowers and shrubs. Angular meandering cornerpieces round out the design, contrasting with the curvilinear emphasis of the field design. Vinescroll and cloud borders frame the field, using the same soft tone-on-tone coloration as the field, to achieve a remarkable visual harmony for the overall composition. East Turkestan, circa 1910.
