Gothic Chair
by National Upholstering Company
- Description
In 1930s Paris, her joie de vivre embraced both the intellect and the senses, when Hemingway, Picasso, Matisse, and other artistic and literary rebels frequented the cultivated salon atmosphere hosted by champions of the avant-garde. In those well-appointed Parisian parlors, they forged friendships, fomented ideas, and sampled savories. In addition, contemporary photography shows them lounging in amply upholstered, comfortable large-framed chairs and couches that came to be known as French club furniture. Such distinctive pieces were architectural monuments unto themselves, gracing both city homes and country houses, offering sanctuary in cafes and night spots, and giving travelers welcome respite in large areas.
